2013 - Highlights

So I'm currently writing this on a train heading into London to celebrate the new year! As trains are boring and I'm currently stood next to a two year old who clearly needs a nappy change I thought this was an excellent time to tell you about all the things that have happened to me! I'm not sure how to integrate photos doing this on my phone so I'll try and put them at the end!

Bringing in 2013
I celebrated the new year in Dubai with my family and boyfriend which was incredible we celebrated at a rooftop party at the top of a hotel and watched the fireworks go off around Dubai! Gangnam style was at its peak and we danced the night away.

Egypt
My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to travel here in the summer and we experienced a variety of Egyptian things : an evening in the desert, stargazing, flat bread making, scuba diving, boat trips, dinners and cocktails and much more I want to go back just writing this!

Setting up my own business
I set up my own business in marketing this year and I love it!

Results
I got my results in the summer for my 2nd year of university and got a 2.1 which I was really happy with!

Starting a new academic year
I'm now in my final year studying English at university and even in this year I have made some amazing new friends! I'm really enjoying my modules this year and hope I can pull my 2.1 up to a first!

Overall 2013 has been a good year! After my Mums passing in March 2012 I have finally started feeling like myself again so thank you 2013. I can't wait to welcome in the new year in London and in fact I'm almost there :) happy new year everyone! 2014!!!!!!

P.s I almost forgot I turned 21 in 2013 it really was a cool year :)

Tartan

The Tartan Fashion Trend

It's everywhere!

Me sporting the Tartan trend!
Today I would like to discuss tartan because this is a trend that I am absolutely loving this A/W season however, it is literally everywhere and it's becoming hard to wear it in a unique way. I think the best way to wear tartan is to either go - Christmassy, Preppy, Subtly or Edgy.

1. Christmassy - Tartan is the perfect Christmas fashion trend as it literally takes us back to the Miricle on 34th Street days when Mara Wilson was cute, and although we don't want to look like a 5 year old the fashion literally has come back around but for grown ups! what could be better. I particularly like blue and green tartan for Christmas as although red tartan is gorgeous it is a little obvious for Christmas, although go for that look if you want to be 100% Christmassy!

Team this high fashion tartan pinafore over a long sleeve shirt for a sophisticated take on the classic tartan in the 90's Christmas look, Wear with sheer or opaque tights for warmth and add cute black ankle boots to edge it up, or chunky buckle cut out boots for a high fashion public school look.

2. Preppy - Tartan is quite a preppy looking material (as already seen above) partly because school and colleges around the world actually use this material - my school/college did not - to achieve this look I would suggest a blazer with matching shorts, I love short suits anyway and I think Tartan really gives it a preppy feel, suitible for the work place (not too short obviously), shopping, drinks with friends and family parties, as it portrays a classic and put together look.

Keep this simple otherwise it is going to look punky rather than preppy, team with a plain black top, and black pointed court shoes, add tights for a more casual look or if its cold! I would keep the make-up simple and the hair natural looking (waves).

3. Subtly - You can wear tartan in a subtle way in form of accessories, this is a great way to rock the trend without being head to toe!

4. Edgy - By Edgy I mean experimental and avant-garde. Tartan can be worn in multiple colours and all over the body to achieve this look, peices such as tartan jumpsuits or dresses or trousers could all be classed as wearing tartan in an edgy way. Celebrities like Rita Ora and Cara Delevingne are huge fans of this look and and often pair with leather or doc martins to give a rock edge!

So there you have it, all the possible ways to wear tartan, no wonder it's everywhere it's so wearable for all ages and can be made to look expensive and chic or edgy and rocky.

Rich Plum Lips A/W 2013

Rich Plum Lips A/W 2013

All 3 products

Plum coloured lips can be seen everywhere this time of the year from celebrities like the Kardashians, J.LO and Megan Fox to the high fashion runways. I personally love Plum lips as I think they make a true statement however, they are not for the faint hearted as they are a bold make-up look to pull off! There are a variety of ways you can achieve this look from subtly stained to a strong matte colour and I will be discussing them all!

 1. Max Factor Lipfinity Lip Stain in Royal Plum 6 -I particularly like this lip product as the colour is intense but it is light feeling on your lips and lasts for quite a few hours, perfect for those of us that cannot seem to keep lipstick on! Despite the intense colour this lip product has, it has a much more natural finish with it's look and feel, it's a great way to obtain an intense plum colour without the fuss of a lipstick. The application couldn't be easier as it is literally like colouring in your lips with a felt tip!

I give this product a 9/10 as the colour is beautiful, the price is fairly cheap at around £6, it lasts a long time and it feels great on the lips as if your not wearing anything.

  2. Hang-Up lipstick by Mac, at £15 this is a beautiful autumn winter colour by mac, the colour is an intense plum! The colour looks intense and rich on the lips and definitely makes a statement. This is not a natural looking lipstick but rather a statement lipstick, the feel on the lips is a little heavy compared to the weightless lip stain but it is worth it for the intense colour. With a make-up look like this go simple on the eyes (Smokey gold would look lovely) or do a dark brown smokey eye for a more vampy look, I think both of these looks look lovely and would be perfect for any occasion in A/W.

I give this product a 9/10 again as the colour is seriously intense and despite the slightly pricier price of £15 it is worth it for the intensity and long lasting wear you get.

3. My final recommendation for a plum lip is The Apocalypse Lip Lacquer in Galaxy by Rimmel, I love lip lacquers for various reasons. I find lip glosses sticky and they rarely have an intense colour, whereas the lacquer goes on with an intense rich colour but with a more gooey (there must be a better way to describe that) consistency which allows for easy application and a more edgy finish. The price is extremely competitive at only £5 and feels like a high end product.

Overall I give this product 10/10!

To achieve maximum intensity with a plum lip you could start with a stain, add a lip stick and finish with the lacquer in the center of the lips to add fullness!
